Tourist services constitute very important sector of Cypriot economy, Cyprus is visited by almost 2.5 million tourists every year (2,405,390 in 2013), mainly from Russia, Ukraine, Great Britain,  Scandinavian countries, Greece, Germany, etc. After a 8% increase in revenues form tourism in 2013 (2,08 bn. EUR) and promising projections for 2014 tourism is expected to do exceptionally well also this year.


Thanks to its outstanding Mediterranean climate, the island offers natural landscapes, beautiful beaches and fascinating history. Cyprus’ beaches are ranked top within EU 27. Cyprus in also number 1 in the world with the most “Blue Flag” beaches.


In addition to the traditional ‘sun and sea’ package, Cyprus has been diversifying its tourism product with the development of luxury marinas and golf courses and niche markets such as cultural, religion, conference and agro-tourism. Sports tourism alone generated around €20 million in 2011. Health and wellness tourism is also on an upward trajectory thanks to the many excellent private hospitals and highly-trained medical professionals. Casinos are another new development, which could open up new investment opportunities and revenue streams of up to €50 million annually, according to the Cyprus Tourism Organisation.



Thanks to the growing network of aviation connections, development of airports and terminals, Cyprus is becoming a more and more important transit centre in the international passenger and freight air traffic.
